Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 25, 2026
Upscalo ("the app", "we", "us") is a photo enhancement app by an independent developer. This policy explains what information the app handles and why. The short version: your photos are processed entirely on your device and are never uploaded to us or anyone else.
1. Your photos
- Processed on your device. Denoising, unblurring, upscaling, and face restoration all run locally on your iPhone or iPad. Your photos are never sent to our servers or to any other service.
- Face detection. To restore faces, the app finds faces and facial landmarks (such as the position of eyes and mouth) in the photo you choose, using Apple's on-device Vision framework. This information is used only while the photo is being processed. It is never stored, never leaves your device, isn't used to identify anyone, and isn't shared with anyone, including us.
- Only the photos you choose. Upscalo uses Apple's photo picker. The app can only access the specific photos you select, not your whole library.
- Saving to Photos. When you tap "Save to Photos", the app asks for "Add Photos Only" permission. This lets it add new images to your library. It doesn't let the app read your existing photos.
- Results stay on your device. Enhanced photos are stored in the app's private storage so you can find them in Recent. They're excluded from iCloud backups. You can delete them at any time in Recent or in Profile › Storage, and they're removed when you delete the app.
2. Information stored on your device
The app keeps a small amount of information on your device to work properly:
- Your preferences, such as appearance and save format.
- Which AI models you've downloaded.
- How many free enhancements you've used today. It's kept in the device Keychain so reinstalling the app doesn't reset it, and iOS may keep it after the app is deleted. It contains no personal information.
- How many ads you've seen today and when the last one was shown, so the app can limit how often ads appear.
- Whether you have Upscalo Pro, so the app opens correctly while offline.
This information stays on your device.
3. Analytics and crash reports
To understand which features are used and to fix bugs, the app uses Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics.
- What's collected: which features you use (for example, that an enhancement was started or finished, which enhancement steps were used, and how long it took), when the plans screen is shown or a purchase is completed (the plan, not your payment details), when an ad is shown, crash and error reports, and technical details such as device model, iOS version, app version, and an app-instance identifier generated by Firebase.
- What's never collected: your photos, their content, file names, or anything you type.
- Your choice: you can turn this off at any time in Profile › Privacy › Share Analytics & Crash Reports.
Google processes this data under Google's Privacy Policy and the Firebase privacy information.
4. Advertising
If you use the free version, the app may show ads from Google AdMob. Pro users don't see ads.
- To show and measure ads, Google may collect your device's advertising identifier, IP address, approximate location derived from your IP address, and how you interact with ads.
- Consent where required. In regions where the law requires it (such as the EEA, the UK, Switzerland, and some US states), Google's consent message asks for your choices before any ads are requested. You can review or change them at any time in Profile › Privacy › Ad Privacy Choices.
- You're in control. iOS asks whether Upscalo may track you across other companies' apps and websites. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", your advertising identifier isn't shared and you'll see less personalized ads. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
- A full-screen ad may appear after a free enhancement, once you leave its result, or when you return to the app after a long break, and only a few times a day. Optional rewarded ads are shown only when you choose to watch one.
- Ads never receive your photos.
See How Google uses information from apps that use its services.
5. Downloading AI models
Some features download AI model files from a third-party file host (currently GitHub, Inc.). As with any download, the host receives standard technical information such as your IP address. No photos or personal information are sent. See GitHub's Privacy Statement.
6. Purchases and subscriptions
Purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment details, name, or email address. The app receives only what it needs to unlock Pro features, such as which plan is active. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
7. Children
Upscalo is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Your rights
We don't run servers that store information about you. Analytics, crash, and advertising data is processed by Google, and purchase data by Apple; you can use their privacy controls linked above. You can delete all app data on your device by deleting your results or uninstalling the app. If you live in a region with specific privacy rights (such as the EU, UK, or California), you can contact us with any request and we'll respond as required by law.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
